Does an .edu domain automatically get a high Page Rank?

Nope, but Google does attribute more authority to .edu, .gov, .mil, and a few other domain extensions. Thus, the authority they can pass is greater by their virtue. However, PageRank isn't assured just because it exists. That takes time and backlinks. Unless you are representing a college or university, you aren't going to be able to legitimately register a .edu domain though.
